Tale of Enki Update

Posted by TheEnkian - December 11th, 2018

I'm very bad at posting updates outside of Twitter screenshots so here's an update on what we've been up to!

Tale of Enki: Pilgrimage is now finished and being released February 8th 2019! We put our final piece of content, the ending cutscene, in over the weekend and the game can be played start to finish. We've had all of the quests, NPCs, enemies, etc. in for a while now and we'd been doing a lot of bug fixing to make everything else play pretty smoothly. The lack of ending scene was just procrastination on our part, haha.

If you're a classic turn-based RPG fan at all then you're in for a treat. It's inspired heavily by Baldur's Gate, the Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and the Legend of Zelda (some strange RPG combinations, I know). The game will be released in approximately two months after a development cycle of 2.5 years. The first half a year was me flying solo and coming up with the plot, the first art assets and the mechanics. I'm very excited because it's by far my biggest project to date and my first properly new RPG since Ender Story: Chapter 1.

I'm planning to host an art contest here on Newgrounds when the game comes out. Tom was very cool with it (he's great with community events) when I asked him if he minded me doing it through Newgrounds. There'll be cash prizes for the first five places and Steam keys given to runners up. You don't need to have played the game at all to participate. I'm cool with you watching videos on it, looking at screenshots for inspiration, etc. Playing would of course help massively! I'm currently thinking $100 for the first place prize, but I'll confirm that nearer the time. Entry will be as simple as tagging it "taleofenki" and uploading it to the art portal here on Newgrounds.

My next major update will possibly be when I'm looking for a couple of beta testers to help iron out bugs over the last 2-3 weeks of development. Failing that, I'll have a bigger post about the art contest coming up in early February so stay tuned for that!

All the best, folks!

From the little I can tell from the screenshots you posted the game looks great, can’t wait to play it :)

Thanks very much! I've put a lot of time and effort into this so hopefully it shines through. I feel it does in my many playthrough for testing, but I'm biased ;)
