New Game and Art Contest!

Posted by TheEnkian - December 29th, 2019

Hi folks,

I haven't posted much lately outside of announcing sales of my games so here's a proper update for all you fine Newgrounds people. To start with, I just released a demo of Azurael's Circle: Chapter 5 here on Newgrounds and the full game on itch.io. You can find it here. I'm very proud of the series as a whole and I think you'll find it a satisfying conclusion to the story. On a side note, it's my first complete "series" that was planned as a series from the start so I'm getting better at that!

Next big bit of news is that once the Steam release of Chapter 5 gets close, I'll be running my second art contest here on Newgrounds. My first one for Tale of Enki: Pilgrimage had some amazing submissions so if it can even come close to that then I'll be very happy! I haven't finalised the details yet, but I've spoken with Tom Fulp who said he'd give it a plug and add it to the NG calendar once I launch it. What a guy. He's always very helpful and supportive of the community here. There will be cash prizes once again for the top 5 and runners up will get Steam keys for the entire Azurael's Circle series.

I'll give a short summary of some projects I've been working on lately too so you can get an idea of what I've been up to. Don't expect all of these to get finished and, for ones that will, some will take longer than others.

Tale of Enki: The 57th Battleground

My biggest focus at the minute is getting this expansion to Tale of Enki: Pilgrimage finished. I've been working super hard with Howard (programmer) on it and Lloyde (musician) has finished all of the excellent music. We wanted it to be finished before the end of 2019, but I'd say it's more likely to be finished in early-ish spring.

Tale of Enki: Tabletop RPG

Another project that I've been working at on and off has been a tabletop ruleset for my Tale of Enki universe as well as expanding the lore to go along with it. I've ran a couple of sessions with friends and I'm really proud of how it's turning out. I've even 3D modelled a bunch of miniatures and my friend has 3D printed them. It's crazy seeing creatures that started out as sprites in a video game be brought into reality as miniatures for a game. I'll post more on this in the future hopefully once I've got more to it. This will be one of the slow burner projects, however.

Virus Sphere

Virus Sphere is the working title for a survival horror game I've been planning out. I'd love for it to be in 3D and from a fixed camera perspective like the old RE games, but I need to continue working on my modelling for that all to come to fruition. I'm very excited for the project and I've already lined up an excellent musician to work on the project once it starts to get off the ground.

Tale of Enki: The Necromancer King

This is another Tale of Enki video game I'd love to make in the RPG genre once again. I've got a lot of sample art made up for it and some sprites and tilesets to use for if it starts going ahead. It may be done in the RPG Maker engine to speed things along, but we'll see. It'll be a sequel to Tale of Enki: Pilgrimage in spirit, but it won't be a direct continuation of the storyline or characters even though they may crop up at some point.

Untitled Platformer

Me and my brother are going to work on a short platformer titled to see how we gel together from a workflow standpoint. He's currently learning C++ as part of his university course so it'll be a good thing to throw into his portfolio as well as to get him some experience.

Untitled Tale of Enki Zelda-like

A dream project of mine is to work on a Zelda-like game. Some of you may remember some old posts I made about a game called Enki Adventures that was a Zelda-like sequel to my old Land of Enki platformers. It all served as a prototype for the characters and setting of my Tale of Enki world. Once me and my brother make the platformer, this is likely what we'd move onto. It wouldn't be a roguelike like Enki Adventures was, it would be a handcrafted overworld and dungeons to go along with it. Every time I see Daniel Muller working on The Waking Cloak, I get more excited about this project. I loved Oracle of Seasons to death as a kid so I'd want it to be in that sort of style.

Anyway, that's it for this update. Stay tuned for more news about the art contest as well as possible updates on The 57th Battleground expansion.

All the best, everybody!
